Toe

The toe looked more like a grey pebble sticking out of the sand, than a human part. Tina got a whiff of the familiar stench of a decomposing body. She found that after years of experience she could guess the cause of death just by sniffing long enough. It took her less than few seconds to guess this case was more peculiar than any she had before.
Oh, there was no doubt it was murder. After all, the guy’s head was missing. Still, there was something odd about that toe. The whole body reeked of ocean, of course, with a trace of alcohol and petrol. She moved closer and wrinkled her nose after smelling his toe again. There it was. The scent was altogether different from the rest of the corpse. Now it was only a matter of finding out why did it smell like blueberries and buttered popcorn and the case would be solved.

Sitting on the edge of Platform 11, Sky tried her best to forget about the nightmare that was about to come to life on the very airship she called her home. She felt the pull of air as her legs danced freely outside the massive metal frame. A friendly technician called out her name, warning her about the dangers of relaxing so close to an open gate. Others would stop by to cheerfully say hello to their favorite pilot, then scurry back to their jobs.
