Grampy

There was not enough time.
Where are the tears?
I should be there by your side.
Ah, there they are.
Why didn’t I call earlier?
They are burning my face.
I should have asked to Skype him.
They stopped suddenly.
Granny.
I feel numb.
I need to call her.
What’s wrong with my body?
Grampy, I miss you.
Are those limbs mine?
I want to hold you one last time.
I’m sorry.

Toe

The toe looked more like a grey pebble sticking out of the sand, than a human part. Tina got a whiff of the familiar stench of a decomposing body. She found that after years of experience she could guess the cause of death just by sniffing long enough. It took her less than few seconds to guess this case was more peculiar than any she had before.
Oh, there was no doubt it was murder. After all, the guy’s head was missing. Still, there was something odd about that toe. The whole body reeked of ocean, of course, with a trace of alcohol and petrol. She moved closer and wrinkled her nose after smelling his toe again. There it was. The scent was altogether different from the rest of the corpse. Now it was only a matter of finding out why did it smell like blueberries and buttered popcorn and the case would be solved.
